Position Summary

Rexford Clinics is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant to deliver physical therapy interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA carries out the established plan of care, guides patients through therapeutic exercise and functional activities, monitors and documents progress, and helps patients move better and recover. Evaluation and plan-of-care development remain the responsibility of the supervising PT.

Key Responsibilities — Core

  • Implement treatment plans designed by the supervising PT, including therapeutic exercise, gait/functional training, manual techniques within scope, and modalities.
  • Monitor patient response, safety, and progress; adjust within the parameters set by the PT and report changes.
  • Document treatment, data, and progress accurately per clinic policy.
  • Educate patients on exercises and reinforce home programs as directed.
  • Prepare treatment areas and equipment; maintain a safe, clean, organized clinic.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervising PT; adhere to Florida scope-of-practice rules, HIPAA, and clinic policies.

Key Responsibilities — Pediatric

  • Deliver play-based gross-motor, balance, and coordination activities as planned by the PT.
  • Support caregivers with PT-approved home activities and reinforce developmental goals.

Key Responsibilities — Adult / Outpatient

  • Carry out PT-designed orthopedic, post-surgical, and neurological interventions.
  • Guide progressive exercise and functional/return-to-activity training under the PT's plan.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Passing score on the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for PTAs and the Florida Laws and Rules examination.
  • Active Florida Physical Therapist Assistant license (Florida Board of Physical Therapy Practice) — or eligibility to obtain prior to start. New graduates may practice on a temporary permit under the direct supervision of a licensed PT pending examination results.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (or obtained prior to patient contact).
  • Ability to pass a Level 2 (fingerprint) background screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior PTA experience in the applicable setting (pediatric or outpatient orthopedic).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus; EMR familiarity.

Dependability and hands-on skill; ability to work within scope and take direction; motivational, patient-focused communication; organization; teamwork with the supervising PT.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Therapy roles at Rexford Clinics are active, hands-on positions. Employees can expect to: stand and walk for extended periods; frequently kneel, crouch, sit on the floor (pediatric settings), bend, and reach; lift, transfer, and physically assist or guard patients (occasionally up to 50 lbs, and more with assistance or equipment); demonstrate exercises and provide manual/tactile cueing; and maintain accurate documentation on a computer. Work is performed in a clinic, gym, or home/community setting and may involve exposure to typical healthcare environments.
